Welcome to Cottage Station, our favorite getaway. Though we acquired the lot in the early 70's, it wasn't until 1987 that we started building. And it took a while to come up with a design we felt would complement the lighthouse property across the street. In the end we settled on a plan reminiscent of the Coast Guard's early Lifesaving Stations along the Outer Banks

And, in keeping with the early Lifesaving Stations, we practically encircled the house with a verandah. In addition to keeping the elements at bay the verandah, which can be accessed from every side of the house, creates an informal semi-outdoor lifestyle ideally suited to the climate of the Outer Banks.
